Fishbone was formed in 1979 in South Central Los Angeles and arrived from the same Los Angeles scene that spawned Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane's Addiction. The band first gained attention with their live concerts, earning a reputation as one of the most diverse bands in the alternative rock genre. Their unique stew of different styles, mixed with hectic energy and pounding rhythms, was a huge influence on the funk/rock/new wave/metal/rap hybrid that would later become popular in the 1990s.

Since 1985, Fishbone has put out nine full length records and 4 EP's and in 2009 signed with DC-Jam for the US release of their latest LP titled "Fishbone Live" which features many of their greatest hits and has been produced in a limited edition full color double picture disc set.

In Janurary 2011, the band once again returned to the studio to write and record some brand new material. The album, which is being engineered and co-produced by Derek O'Brien (Social Distortion) will be released later this fall.
